Celia Paul Sits for Her Own Portrait

Celia Paul Sits for Her Own Portrait

Celia Paul Sits for Her Own Portrait

Celia Paul cried throughout her first sessions modeling for Lucian Freud. “The experience of being naked disarmed me,” Paul writes in her new memoir, Self-Portrait. She describes sitting for him as a tortuous experience and the sense of his scrutiny as overpowering. “I felt like I was at the doctor’s or in hospital, or in the morgue.” At one point, he tells her that her breasts reminded him of eggs; then he boils one, slices it in half, and places it in a dish in front of her. She has to lie still while he paints it.

This became Freud’s Naked Girl With Egg (1980-81), a strange and slightly surreal work that one critic noted was emblematic of Freud’s interest in female genitalia, a painting that “turns the body inside out and drags the mystery into the daylight.” The mystery dragged into the daylight was Paul’s body, naked and splayed on a black bedspread, as she cups her breast with her hand. Her eyes are turned upward toward something in the distance so that we see mostly their whites. In front of her, on a small table, is the egg, looking like a pair of disembodied breasts or yellow eyes.

The naked girl and the famous artist: It’s an old story and perhaps  predictable arrangement of roles for Freud, the much older and more famous painter, and Paul, his beautiful younger lover; he paints and she sits for him. And yet. The concept of sitting occurs over and over again in Paul’s book, and these roles are not as static as Naked Girl With Egg might lead us to believe. Nor is sitting as simple as it might seem. “The act of sitting is not passive,” Paul writes, describing it, at times, as almost a form of intense meditation, one that requires its own kind of focus.

Self-Portrait might be read as a series of sittings over the course of a lifetime. Paul sits for Freud many times throughout their relationship, but he also sits for her. So do all of her…

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Review – A Saga Worthy Of Song

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Review – A Saga Worthy Of Song

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Review – A Saga Worthy Of Song

The Assassin’s Creed franchise draws people in for many reasons. Over the years, it has provided stealth-focused infiltration, stylish encounters, high-seas adventures, and other elements – but not always in equal measure. Each installment hits different sweet spots for different players with varying degrees of success, but for the first time in the series, the balance feels perfect in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. With its engaging combination of combat, open-world exploration, crafted story content, and settlement management, this Viking saga is an epic with a little something for everyone.

Though Valhalla embodies a fascinating evolution for Assassin’s Creed, you don’t need any familiarity with the franchise to appreciate the tale of Eivor and the Raven Clan’s incursion into Anglo-Saxon England. It’s a massive story with small beginnings, following your Norse hero’s attempts to forge alliances in hostile territory. Eivor’s effort to create a new home brings together a variety of compelling loops that capture the adventurous Viking spirit; you can hunt legendary animals, track down new pieces of gear, or ride your longship down the riverways. Every time I left the clan’s settlement of Ravensthorpe, I had to choose between multiple tempting paths. This wealth of enticing options made me feel like a warrior at a feast with more delicious mead and meat than any one person could ever consume.

Valhalla’s open-world content is deliberate and purposeful; apart from an overabundance of collectibles, nothing feels like unnecessary padding. Special world events called “mysteries” are the best example of this approach, replacing traditional sidequests. Mysteries aren’t generic objectives like “kill the bandits” or “loot the chest.” Instead, they are authored scenarios that may present specific challenges or simply tell funny stories. For instance, I had to fight an old man who lamented his own undefeatable punching skill, count an…

Yunus Musah's USMNT call-up and Valencia starting role are no fluke

Yunus Musah's USMNT call-up and Valencia starting role are no fluke

Yunus Musah's USMNT call-up and Valencia starting role are no fluke

Yunus Musah had taken a circuitous route to be where he is, but he’s put his foot down and sped off fast and straight, accelerating directly into history. A Ghanaian England youth international born in New York, raised in Castelfranco Veneto near Venice, Italy, and in Barking, east London, he raced across the field of the Mestalla in Spain, hitting 20.8 mph (33.5 kph) as he ran. There was just one thing on his mind.

“I can see a marker behind me and I see [Denis] Cheryshev but I keep going and keep going,” he said. “The only thing in my head is the goal.”

Picking up the ball inside his own half, a huge gap appeared before him and he headed straight into it, not stopping until, 50 metres further on, with everyone trailing miles behind, his shot took the ball past David Soria and him into the record books. His shout broke the silence and his teammates eventually caught up with him, embracing him. When they dispersed, he knelt down, head on the turf, and prayed.

In 79 years, no one younger had scored for Valencia, and it had only happened once in their whole history. No overseas player has ever done so. He was 17 years, 338 days old, and already a regular at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“Incredible,” Musah called it, and it was. “It’s incredible to be such a young age and score at a club with such history.”

Life comes at you fast — or at least it does when you’re going at that speed. A few days later, the call came to join the United States men’s national team, who had been following him closely for a while. Nico Estevez, assistant to U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter, had worked at Valencia and helped build communication between the club and with Musah’s family.

“One thing I’m careful about is that I always want to know the players’ connection to the United States,” Berhalter said…

How to Start an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party

How to Start an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party

How to Start an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party

With lockdowns happening around the world due to coronavirus, watching films and TVs with your friends and family hasn’t been an option. Well, Amazon has made it sort of possible with Prime Video Watch Party.

Sure, you can agree on a certain time to start watching the same content as another household or even countdown to hitting the play button over the phone. But the likelihood, when you factor in buffering, is that you won’t truly be watching in sync.

Amazon Prime Video Watch Party is a simple and easy way to watch with other people without all the faff and works in a very similar way to BBC Together. We also have a similar article for watching Disney Plus together with friends.

How to start an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party

It pretty much goes without saying but you and the other people watching will need a Prime Video subscription. Here’s what to do once you’ve logged in on a browser (details below):

  1. Find the content you want to watch

  2. Select ‘Watch Party’

  3. Enter your name

  4. Click “Create Watch Party” to generate a link

  5. Send the link to people you want to join

  6. Enjoy the show, including the chat window

What content does Prime Video Watch Party work with?

It makes sense that you can’t watch rented or purchased content using the Watch Party feature, as well as Prime Video Channels, IMDb TV and live events.

Instead, you can use it for anything with the Prime logo or that says ‘Watch Now with Amazon Prime’. Find out what we think are the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

What devices does Prime Video Watch Party work on?

For now, Amazon is restricting Watch Party to web browsers (not including Safari or Internet Explorer) and doesn’t need a plugin.

That means you can’t use Watch Party on other devices like smart TVs, consoles, mobiles, streaming boxes like the Fire TV range. Amazon may well add this feature further down the line, though.

(Reuters) — U.S. President Donald Trump will be subject to the same Twitter rules as any other user when President-elect Joe Biden takes office on Jan. 20, the social media company confirmed this week.

Twitter places “public interest” notices on some rule-breaking tweets from “world leaders” that would otherwise be removed. Such tweets from political candidates and elected or government officials are instead hidden by a warning and Twitter takes actions to restrict their reach.

But the company said this treatment does not apply to former office holders.

“This policy framework applies to current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold these positions,” a Twitter spokesman said in a statement.

It has added multiple warnings and labels to tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account, including many since Tuesday’s election that made unfounded allegations of voting fraud. It first hid one of his tweets behind a “public interest” label in May when the president violated the company’s policy against glorifying violence.

Under Facebook’s policies, it appears that after Biden takes office in January, Trump’s posts would also no longer be exempt from review by Facebook’s third-party fact-checking partners.

Facebook’s online policy says it defines politicians, whose posts are exempt from fact-checking, as candidates running for office, current office holders and many of their cabinet appointees, along with political parties and their leaders.

It says “former candidates for office or former officials continue to be covered by our third-party fact-checking program.”

Facebook did not reply to Reuters questions about how it would treat Trump’s account.

Biden’s victory on Saturday in Pennsylvania put the Democratic presidential candidate over the threshold of 270 Electoral College votes needed to clinch the presidency. Republican Trump has not conceded and has vowed to challenge the…

Usman Qadir finally hits the zone, and puts on a show to remember

Usman Qadir just couldn’t get an international game. Until this series. Until today. This second T20I against Zimbabwe might be the occasion Qadir looks back on as the one that made him a serious spin option for the national team in short-format cricket.

there was a brief period where the possibility of representing that side didn’t appear unrealistic; his international prospects in Pakistan seemed bleak at any rate. That soon petered out, though, and last year, out of nowhere, seemingly, head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq brought him in from the cold to tour Australia. He never got a game, though, and when he was picked for the third T20I against Bangladesh in January, it was rained off before the toss could be had. On that rain-soaked day, Qadir’s drought continued.

When Shadab Khan was ruled out of the ODI series against Zimbabwe because of an ankle injury, it looked like that would be the format Qadir would make his debut in. But Pakistan went with Imad Wasim as the spin frontman, and just the pacers for the final ODI. Finally, belatedly, when he was handed his Pakistan debut in the first T20I, figures of 3-0-24-1 barely caused any ripples.

ALSO READ: My father wished I would wear the Pakistan star – Usman Qadir

On Sunday, it began inauspiciously enough, when Wesley Madhevere pounced on a long hop to dispatch him to cow corner off his first ball. But that was the only time Qadir put a foot wrong all day.

Qadir didn’t concede another run to Madhevere all over, and should have had him lbw with a perfect googly that spun sharply to crash into his pads; replays showed it would also have crashed into leg stump. But the umpire remained unmoved and Pakistan puzzlingly didn’t review. Qadir, however, seemed to have found the zone where his confidence and talent were in perfect harmony, and, over the next 18 balls, begun to weave a web Zimbabwe had no clue how to untangle.

Sikandar Raza lasted just two balls against him, hopelessly defeated in the flight as he…

Chris Nikic becomes first person with Down's syndrome to finish an Ironman triathlon

Nikic started at 5:52am and finished over 16 hours later

A 21-year-old triathlete from Florida has become the first person with Down’s syndrome to finish an Ironman event – swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running a 26.2-mile marathon.

Chris Nikic crossed the line in 16 hours 46 minutes nine seconds – less than 14 minutes under the official cut-off time at the Visit Panama City Beach Ironman in Florida – to earn official recognition from Guinness World Records.

“You have shattered barriers while proving without a doubt that anything is possible,” the official Ironman account tweeted.

From a push-up to an Ironman

Nikic started with a 2.4 mile swim and moved on to a 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run
Nikic’s day started with a 2.4-mile swim

In Ironman’s 42-year history, no athlete with Down’s syndromeexternal-link – a genetic condition that can cause varying degrees of learning disability and slower physical development – has even attempted an event, let alone finished one.

On Saturday, footage circulated on social media of Nikic’s father helping put running shoes on his son’s feet while – his voice breaking with pride – telling him “you are almost an Ironman buddy. You’re two thirds of an Ironman”external-link.

Sporting cuts on his knees from a minor bike crash earlier in the day, Nikic duly did the rest, completing the marathon leg in darkness in six hours 18 minutes.

His journey to the finish line had started three years earlier when, after noticing his son was becoming increasingly sedentary, Nik Nikic encouraged him to become 1% fitter each day. Training began with a single push-up.

“To Chris, this race was more than just a finish line and celebration of victory,” said his father.

“Ironman has served as his platform to become one step closer to his goal of living a life of inclusion, normalcy, and leadership. It’s about being an example to other kids and families that face similar barriers, proving no dream or goal is too high.

“If Chris can do an Ironman, he can do anything.”

How To Remove Meet Tab From Gmail On Android

Google has recently rebranded its Hangouts video-calling service as Meet and included it in the Gmail app on Android. In these days of lockdown and conference calls, it’s a useful feature that provides an alternative to the likes of Zoom and Skype.

But if you prefer to keep your apps simple and don’t like the Meet icon appearing at the bottom of the Gmail app, it’s quite easy to make it disappear. We show you how to remove the Meet tab from Gmail on Android.

How to remove Meet from Gmail app on Android

When you open the Gmail app on Android, you’ll notice that the foot of the page has two tabs, one for Mail and another for Meet. Making them go away is a straightforward affair. One that is easy to reverse if you decide you actually do want Meet available at the tap of a screen.

To remove Meet, tap on the three lines in the top-left corner to open the app menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the list until you find Settings, then tap on it.

On the next page you’ll be presented with various options, but the one you need to select is your Gmail address, so tap that to open up the next options.

Scroll down until you find the Meet section. In here you’ll see two settings: Show the Meet tab for video calling and Send more diagnostic info.

How to remove Meet tab in Gmail on Android: Meet options

Tap the box on the former, obviously. With that done, return to the main Gmail page and the Meet tab should now be history.

If you want to bring it back, just repeated these steps and tap the Show the Meet tab for video calling option once more.

To see which communications app is the one to use when you’re stuck at home, make sure to also take a look at our guide on how to video call on Android.

Katie Couric: I Gave Trump a Chance. Biden Deserves a Chance Now

http://mygoogle.ezyro.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Katie-Couric-I-Gave-Trump-a-Chance-Biden-Deserves-a-300x184.jpg"

On Sunday, I woke up feeling like my old self. (Just 40, I mean 4 years older.) I got to know Donald Trump during my 15 years on the Today Show. Part of our job was to promote a reality show I had never seen called The Apprentice. His success was partially our responsibility.

“The Donald” as he was known to Manhattanites, was very nice to me during those years. He supported my colon cancer efforts after my husband died. I attended his wedding in 2005. And although I believed that Hillary Clinton would have been a far better president, I did as she encouraged me to do in her moving concession speech; I tried to keep an open mind. I prayed that somehow the awesome and humbling job of leading our country would bring out the best in him, that he would rise to the occasion. Instead, I watched, as so many did, as it seemed to bring out the worst in him and he sank lower and lower. We were like the proverbial frog in the water. It got hotter and hotter over the course of his presidency and we became slowly accustomed to the norm-breaking outrages, until it reached a roiling boil.

TIME cover story: How Joe Biden Won the White House

I recognize that some people appreciated that “he said it like it was” and that he became a vessel for their fears and frustrations. But every day he seemed to take his bare hands and rip apart the gaping wound that already existed in our country, preventing any chance of eventual healing. The “birther,” who inexplicably promoted the false notion that Barack Obama was not a U.S. citizen, gave birth to countless conspiracy theories and the nefarious groups that trade in them. And he sowed mistrust in our institutions, a reality star who locked his supporters into an alternate reality and threw away the key. Donald Trump didn’t grow bigger in the job. He grew smaller.

Leicester City vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers - Football Match Report - November 8, 2020

http://mygoogle.ezyro.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Leicester-City-vs-Wolverhampton-Wanderers-Football-Match-Report-300x169.jpg"

Leicester City went top of the Premier League with a tense 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday in which striker Jamie Vardy scored one penalty and had another saved.

Vardy made no mistake with his first spot kick on 15 minutes after Wolves were penalised for handball when Dennis Praet's cross hit Max Kilman's hand, the 33-year-old England international sending keeper Rui Patricio the wrong way.

- ESPN Insider Notebook: Possible Solskjaer replacements
- Stream FC Daily on ESPN+

He stepped up again on 39 minutes when Rayan Ait Nouri brought down James Justin, but struck his kick straight down the middle and into the legs of the goalkeeper.

Marc Albrighton replaced Luke Thomas for Leicester at the break and almost made an immediate impact, but Youri Tielemans headed his ball into the box just wide. He also wasted another good chance as he blazed a shot over the bar.

Wolves swarmed forward looking for an equaliser and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel pulled off a stunning save to deny a Ruben Neves shot from the edge of the box, diving high to his left to keep the ball out.

"That's what you work on as a keeper, it's what I'm there for. The whole team defended brilliantly all game -- they had one or two chances and that was it," Schmeichel told Sky Sports.

Leicester could have doubled their lead on 82 minutes but Harvey Barnes blazed a deflected strike over the bar. From the resulting corner Christian Fuchs hit a powerful shot that might have troubled the keeper had it not struck team mate Jonny Evans.

Leicester climbed to the top of the table with 18 points from eight games, one ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and two clear of champions Liverpool who play Manchester City later on Sunday.

Stay home.

Rugby’s southern-hemisphere superpowers are certainly sticking to the UK government’s advice.

Usually, at this time of year, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia would migrate north for the autumn Tests.

Not in 2020. The Springboks are confined to barracks. Australia and New Zealand have played each other four times in less than a month in front of home crowds of maskless thousands, with coronavirus cases there relatively low.

And, in their absence, in the north, a new concept has been cooked up: the Autumn Nations Cup.

It is international rugby, but not as we know it.

The format

The tournament involves eight teams, split into two pools.

Pool A comprises England, Ireland, Wales and Georgia. Pool B is France, Scotland, Italy and Fiji.

Each team plays every other team in their group over three successive weekends, starting on Friday, to complete the pool stages.

Then the top-ranked team in Pool A plays the top-ranked team in Pool B, the second-ranked team in Pool A plays their equivalent in Pool B and so on for a final weekend of fixtures to decide the final placings.

The teams

England lift Six Nations
England lifted the Six Nations title back at their London hotel base after returning from a victory away to Italy in the final round

The Six Nations, interrupted by the outbreak of coronavirus, only ended just over a week ago. Instead of the usual 11-month break from local rivalries, those same teams are being thrown back into competition.

And the storylines continue.

Will newly-crowned champions England add world rugby’s newest title to one of its oldest?

Can Scotland build on a Six Nations campaign that gathered strength as it went?

Can Wayne Pivac rediscover Wales’ mojo after five defeats in their past six games?

Will Ireland, two years on from an historic win over New Zealand in Dublin, find that fluency, urgency and accuracy again?

And, will the rebirth of France…

Dana White once won a $5,000 bet after watching UFC legend Chuck Liddell ‘beat the crap'

Dana White and Chuck Liddell enjoy a relationship which extends far beyond work.

Before the Boston-native assumed presidency of the UFC, he managed a host of top fighters, including LIddell as well as Tito Ortiz.

Alongside childhood friend Lorenzo Fertitta, he eventually bought the company in 2001 for just $2million and sold it for $4.2billion in 2016.

However, his friendship with Liddell remained tight throughout the entirety of his ascent to the top of the combat sports world and was forged during the early years of the UFC when both men could tour the US and not get stopped by adoring fans.

In his autobiography, Iceman, Liddell recalled a story shared between the two men during the early years of the Fertitta-White ownership when they sought to drive support for the burgeoning organisation, by any means possible.

“Those first few years no one knew us on the East Coast,” he wrote. “I toured Ibiza, Spain, with Dana and was stopped every five feet.

“But in Boston or New York or Philly, I was just some guy with a Mohawk people crossed the street to avoid. One night we went out after a day of pushing the UFC and wound up at our hotel at around two in the morning.

“It was a fancy place, not the kind of joint where you’d try to take someone down in the lobby. But the basement, that’s another story.

“While I went straight back to my room that night, Dana got into a conversation with one of the hotel security guards, who wanted to know what was up with Dana’s buddy with the tattoo on his head.

“Dana told him I was a UFC fighter. The guy’s first response was ‘This is all crap. None of that stuff is real.’

“Dana answered, ‘I’ve got five grand in my pocket and I guarantee that you can’t last five minutes…

The world’s first crewed Hyperloop trip was a success

The world’s first crewed Hyperloop trip was a success

Josh Giegel and Sara Luchian travel in the first crewed Hyperloop pod test

Sarah Lawson

In a call with Engadget ahead of the test, Virgin Hyperloop’s representatives told us there was a heavy focus on safety, given the level of attention the journey was likely to provoke. Both were walked through the tube and shown the various exit points and procedures to ensure that, should things fail, they could get out of the capsule. Hyperloop said that the pair would be in constant contact with the company’s control desk throughout the test.

The pair traveled in a brand new, second-generation Hyperloop pod, codenamed XP-2, the “Pegasus Pod.” XP-2 was designed to comfortably seat and support two passengers. Both seats have beefy five-point harnesses, the sort you’d find in race cars, but they’re the only modification used for the test. That’s because the pod was designed to mirror a real Hyperloop journey in as many ways as possible, and the real things are envisioned more like a subway ride than a rocket.

In order to maintain a comfortable experience for acceleration and braking, the capsule’s speed in this test was limited to 107 miles per hour. That’s less than half of the pod’s top speed in the tube, which maxed out at 240 miles per hour during tests at the end of 2017. This is mostly down to the length of the tube: 500 meters isn’t long enough to reach the sort of speeds that the company promises to reach. But greater speeds are likely to be demonstrated when the second Hyperloop facility is built in West Virginia.

As one company representative told Engadget, “This is our moon landing.” Demonstrating that the pod is safe for human consumption is a big milestone in its journey. It may also encourage more investors and regulators to get on board to help bankroll the next stage in its evolution.

LOOK: William Hill bettor turns $4,000 seven-leg football parlay into more than $440,000

LOOK: William Hill bettor turns $4,000 seven-leg football parlay into more than $440,000

A bettor at the William Hill Sportsbook at the Venetian in Las Vegas is walking home a big winner after cashing in on a seven-leg parlay. The ticket was bought for $4,000 and flipped for a total payout of $442,643.40.

The wagers were placed across college football and NFL games over the weekend.

There were two big bets that maximized the payout. The first was a moneyline play on Maryland to beat Penn State at +1200. The Terps went on to defeat the Nittany Lions 35-19 thanks to a three-touchdown performance from Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The other huge moneyline hit was +500 on Liberty to upset Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Of course that winning wager came with a massive sweat as the Flames hit a game-winning field goal as time expired. Ohio State taking down Rutgers, Oklahoma beating Kansas, Appalachian State defeating Texas State and Iowa State winning straight up against Baylor were the other college football parts of the equation.

That left a -1000 Steelers moneyline bet to win at the Cowboys as the last wager heading into Sunday. While Pittsburgh was a heavy favorite, the bettor was forced to sweat out an entire game where the Cowboys took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Steelers then rallied to score 15 unanswered, but the sweat continued all the way down to the final second. With four seconds remaining in the game, Cowboys quarterback Garrett Gilbert launched a pass into the end zone only to see it batted down by Minkah Fitzpatrick, which cashed the massive ticket.

Perhaps the first purchase that will be made with the more than $440,000 will be on a Fitzpatrick Steelers jersey.

Bloodborne Isn't 60FPS On PS5, But Some Other FromSoftware Titles Are

Bloodborne Isn't 60FPS On PS5, But Some Other FromSoftware Titles Are

Bloodborne is one of the PS4’s most important games for many players, and there’s been a lot of speculation on how it might be improved on PS5, as many titles will be. We can now confirm that–at launch, at least–the title does not receive a significant framerate improvement. However, some other titles made by developer FromSoftware are in better shape.

Lance McDonald, a modder whose work with From Software games is quite prolific (see, for instance, his restoration of cut Sekiro content) has been testing From Software’s games on PS5, and has found that Bloodborne is, sadly, still locked to 30fps. “Bloodborne is still 30fps with bad frame pacing,” he confirms.

On the other hand, Sekiro and Dark Souls III both have improved framerates. McDonald has confirmed in a tweet that both games run at 60fps on the next-generation Sony system. Both of these games were released by FromSoftware after Bloodborne.

Dark Souls III and Sekiro were both locked to 30fps on a base PS4, and uncapped on PS4 Pro–but they did not hit 60fps. In our own experience, Sekiro also hits 60fps on Xbox Series X.

McDonald has previously made his own 60fps patch for the game–and it remains a possibility that the Sony-published game will still be patched in the future to take advantage of the new hardware.

One of the major PS5 launch titles in a remake of an older title in the From Software catalog. Demon’s Souls started the “Souls” series on PS3, and now it has been remade for the next-generation. It will be available alongside the PS5 on November 12.

Leonard: Colts' defense has 'got to be way better' after loss to Ravens

Leonard: Colts' defense has 'got to be way better' after loss to Ravens

INDIANAPOLIS — Darius Leonard and DeForest Buckner expect the Indianapolis Colts‘ defense to ace each week’s test — regardless of the challenge.

It’s why they consider Sunday’s 24-10 loss to Baltimore a failure.

“We’re a good team, but we’ve got to be way better,” said Leonard, the playmaking Pro Bowl linebacker. “I think they rushed for 112 yards overall. That can’t happen.”

Never mind the Colts (5-3) held the league’s top rushing attack to its second-lowest total this season, its first sub-140 yard game in four weeks and well below its per-game average of 178.7 yards.

Never mind Indy kept Lamar Jackson pretty much in check. He was 19 of 23 with 170 yards while carrying 13 times for 58 yards.

Never mind Ravens coach Jim Harbaugh, who has presided over some of the league’s top defenses during his 13-year tenure, praised Indy’s young, vastly improved unit.

It wasn’t good enough for Leonard or Buckner because they know what’s still on the docket.

Sunday’s matchup with Baltimore (6-2) was the start of a brutal four-game stretch that includes two MVP quarterbacks — Jackson and Aaron Rodgers — and three contests against last season’s conference runners-up. They’ll face Tennessee twice and Green Bay in two weeks. The Ravens also were the AFC’s top seed last year and all four could be contenders again this season.

To those who wondered whether the Colts defense could hold up against some of the league’s top teams and best talents, the Ravens game certainly provided some promising signs. Indy allowed only 13 yards rushing in the first half and forced Baltimore out of its traditional run-first philosophy in the second half.

But Leonard and Buckner, the Pro Bowl defensive tackle, know Indy can — and must — play even better during the second half of the season to make the playoffs.

“Guys played hard, we competed, but it’s the little mistakes that we need to clean up to come out with a win,” Buckner said….

Alabama earns No. 1 spot in college football poll for 13th straight year

Alabama earns No. 1 spot in college football poll for 13th straight year

Alabama is No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll for the first time this year, extending its record of consecutive seasons with at least one week on top of the rankings to 13.

Notre Dame moved up two spots to No. 2 on Sunday after upsetting Clemson in a dramatic double-overtime game Saturday night. Ohio State remained No. 3. Clemson gave up the top spot for the first time this season and landed at No. 4.

The Crimson Tide, who had an open date, received 59 of 62 first-place votes. Notre Dame, which has its best ranking since it was No. 1 at the end of the 2012 regular season, received two first-place votes. Ohio State got one.

Texas A&M moved up two spots to No. 5, the Aggies’ best ranking since they finished fifth to end the 2012 season. Florida jumped two spots to No. 6 after beating Georgia to snap a three-game losing streak against its SEC East rival. The Bulldogs fell eight spots to a season-low 13th.

No. 8 BYU, No. 9 Miami and No. 10 Indiana round out the top 10. The Hoosiers moved up three spots after beating Michigan to receive their best ranking since they were No. 10 in 1969.

POLL POINTS

It’s no surprise when Alabama reaches No. 1, but it’s always historic. The Crimson Tide’s streak of seasons with at least one appearance at No. 1 started in Nick Saban’s second year as coach in Tuscaloosa. The Tide reached the top of the poll for the first time under Saban on Nov. 2, 2008, the day after beating Arkansas State.

No. 1 Texas lost that week at Texas Tech — Graham Harrell to Michael Crabtree in the final seconds as the Red Raiders shocked the Longhorns — to open the door for Alabama to ascend. The second-longest streak of consecutive years appearing at No. 1 in AP poll history belongs to Miami, which went seven seasons from 1986 to ’92. This No. 1 appearance is the 92nd under Saban and Alabama’s record 123rd overall.

Take away Alabama’s other No. 1 appearances and just Saban’s appearances at No. 1 would rank as the fourth most in college…
