Biden should support push for transparency in vote as ‘ultimate presidential act’: Turley

Joe Biden, the presumptive president-elect, would make the “ultimate presidential act” by calling on his own party to support the push for transparency and scrutiny into the 2020 election, a law professor at George Washington University, said.

Jonathan Turley, the professor, took to Twitter on Sunday to say that there is “currently no evidence of systemic fraud in the election but there is ample reason to conduct reviews.”

Biden has been projected as the next president after narrowly winning key swing states. President Trump and his campaign have questioned what they see as possible voting and counting irregularities.

Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, said Sunday that there will be up to five lawsuits over alleged voter fraud in battleground states. Giuliani told “Sunday Morning Futures,” that “there is strong evidence that this was an election that at least three or four states and possibly 10, it was stolen. In other words, it was based on false votes.”

Trump’s detractors say they predicted that Trump would not concede no matter how large a margin Biden carried. 

Biden, who was declared the winner on Saturday, said in a prime-time victory speech not far from his Delaware home that he “sought this office to restore the soul of America, and to make America respected around the world again and to unite us here at home.”

Biden crossed the winning threshold of 270 Electoral College votes with a win in Pennsylvania. His victory came after more than three days of uncertainty as election officials sorted through a surge of mail-in votes that delayed processing.

Uzabase Agrees to Sell Business News Site Quartz

The co-founder of Quartz and its editor in chief agreed to buy the business news website from Japanese financial data and media company Uzabase Inc., a deal that comes as Quartz has suffered from the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

Every entrepreneur wants press, but few understand how to reach out to a reporter and frame their story in a way that’ll get attention. In this video, Entrepreneur editor in chief Jason Feifer digs into his career — and his inbox! — to provide a useful and revealing guide to what journalists think, what they’re looking for and how to develop a press strategy that really works.

Here are three big takeaways from the discussion:

1. Understand who you’re contacting

You don’t pitch a consumer without understanding their needs, and you don’t pitch an investor without studying what they’re looking for. The same must be true for journalists. To properly connect with them, you need to understand what motivates them. And here’s the most important answer: A journalist’s job is to serve their readers (or listeners or viewers), so they’re always looking for stories and insights that’ll provide value to that audience.

What’s the best way to get their attention? Study their work! Carefully read a publication and think about how it tells stories, what information it provides, and the way it speaks to its audience. This will give you a lot of insight about how best to pitch your story. If you can frame your story in a way that fits a publication’s needs, you’ll increase your chances fo success.

2. Be strategic with your outreach

Before you reach out to media, ask yourself: What do I need press for? You should have a good answer to this. Maybe you need press to drive awareness about a new product, or to boost your profile before approaching investors. These are all good reasons.

7 Big Items on Biden’s White House Agenda

Amnesty for illegal immigrants, taxpayer funding for abortions, and a transition from using oil for energy were key to former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign for the White House.

Biden laid out many policy proposals during his campaign to unseat President Donald Trump, which major media outlets called in the Democratic challenger’s favor Saturday even as ballot counting and litigation continued.

Trump has not conceded the fiercely fought contest, and his campaign team said it intends to pursue legal challenges Monday across several closely contested states.

“Now that the campaign is over, what is the people’s will? What is our mandate?” Biden said in what was billed as a victory speech Saturday night in Wilmington, Delaware, adding:

I believe it is this: Americans have called on us to marshal the forces of decency and the forces of fairness. To marshal the forces of science and the forces of hope in the great battles of our time.

The battle to control the virus. The battle to build prosperity. The battle to secure your family’s health care. The battle to achieve racial justice and root out systemic racism in this country.

Implementing is always tougher than promising, and Biden appears not to have brought along a Democratic majority in the Senate on his way to the White House, although the chamber’s final makeup awaits two run-off elections in Georgia on Jan. 5. Democrats will remain in control of the House, although by a narrower margin as Republicans made gains.

Even with a narrow win, though, Biden likely will push his campaign agenda. Here’s a look at some of those policies.

1. Taxpayer-Funded Abortion

Early in his campaign, during the summer of 2019, Biden vowed to do away with the Hyde Amendment, a law that prevents Medicaid funds from being used to pay for most abortions. It’s a law Biden previously supported.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Four astronauts arrived at Kennedy Space Center on Sunday for SpaceX’s second crew launch, coming up next weekend.

For NASA, it marks the long-awaited start of regular crew rotations at the International Space Station, with private companies providing the lifts. There will be double the number of astronauts as the test flight earlier this year, and their mission will last a full six months.

“Make no mistake: Every flight is a test flight when it comes to space travel. But it’s also true that we need to routinely be able to go to the International Space Station,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in welcoming the astronauts to Kennedy.

The crew of three Americans and one Japanese are scheduled to rocket away Saturday night, provided approaching Tropical Storm Eta doesn’t interfere. It will be a speedy trip to the space station, a six-orbit express lasting under nine hours.

Black women put Kamala Harris in the White House. Here’s how they feel about making

When Jotaka Eaddy watched Kamala Harris take the stage on Saturday night as Vice President-elect, her reaction was one of “pure joy.”

“I thought about the rich legacy of Black women that made this moment possible who are no longer with us,” says Eaddy, the founder and CEO of Full Circle Strategies. “I thought about the Black women of Delta Sigma Theta who marched for suffrage in 1913. I thought about Fannie Lou Hamer. I thought about Shirley Chisholm, and how she was mistreated. I thought about all the Black women that have been organizing together—you just are grateful to be able to witness such a moment in your lifetime.”

In winning the presidential election alongside Joe Biden, Harris marked a massive set of milestones in American politics: she will be the first woman—and notably the first Black woman and first Indian-American woman—in history to serve as Vice President in U.S. Eaddy’s response to that accomplishment marries two themes of this election. First, the resonance of Harris’s presence on the Democratic ticket. And second, the work Black women did to get her to the White House.

Eaddy is the founder of #WinWithBlackWomen, a collective that worked to elect the Biden-Harris ticket throughout this campaign. She is one of the 91% of Black women whose support proved crucial to Democrats in winning the 2020 race.

Of all demographics, Black women most consistently support Democratic candidates. Their turnout and loyalty has inspired others supportive of the Biden campaign to express public gratitude for helping Democrats defeat President Trump.

That acknowledgement comes with mixed emotions for Black women, many of whom are moved to see Harris in the nation’s second-highest office—but want more than simple praise every four years for how they vote.

Ademola Lookman penalty: Fulham boss Scott Parker angry with Panenka attempt

Lookman was understandably devastated after his miss

John Terry’s slip in the 2008 Champions League final shootout, Simone Zaza’s bizarre run-up and miss for Italy against Germany at Euro 2016 and now Ademola Lookman’s fluffed Panenka-style spot kick.

The Fulham forward’s dreadful attempt with the last kick of the game in the 1-0 defeat at West Ham is up there with some of the worst penalties seen in recent years.

His chipped effort lacked power, dropping tamely into Lukasz Fabianski’s hands.

“After yesterday’s mistake, I take full responsibility and onus for it,” Lookman tweeted on Sunday. “To my teammates, manager and the supporters I vow to put the next one in. I will not let one failure hold me back.”

Understandably, Cottagers boss Scott Parker was not best pleased after the match, having seen his team fail to rescue a point having conceded a Tomas Soucek strike in the 91st minute.

“I’m disappointed and angry,” Parker told Match of the Day. “You can’t take penalties like that and he knows that. He’s a young player and he’s learning.”

With seconds of injury time left, Lookman stepped up and chipped the penalty towads goal

But West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski hadn’t been fooled by the attempt, so was well placed to save

Soon after, the whistle was blown for full-time and West Ham celebrated taking all three points

The Fulham boss added: “The boy has made a mistake. Ade is the first to understand that. When you’re young and you’re learning you have to learn quick. He is disappointed and rightly so. This is part and parcel of football, of growing as players and as a team. We’ll get around him now.”

Lookman has impressed since joining the Cottagers on loan from RB Leipzig at the end of the transfer window, scoring a fine solo goal against Sheffield United.

“Ade has been fantastic since he’s been in,” said Parker. “He’ll need to dust himself down. When you’re young you make mistakes.”

The 23-year-old had his head in his hands as the referee blew the whistle shortly afterwards and looked devastated as he was consoled by his team-mates.

“Ademola is devastated, apologetic,” said Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney.

“He’s a young man who has had a good start here and is a big player for us. We’ll get around him and pick him up, he knows he could have got us a point.”

Midfielder Harrison Reed added: “He has apologised so we will brush it under the carpet and move on. He’s gutted in there, we all are.”

Why Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must put loyalty to one side and start Diogo Jota ahead of Roberto Firmino at Man City

Like all good managers do, Jurgen Klopp sent an emphatic message to those who doubt the abilities of one of his players.

The Liverpool boss said he won’t bother wasting his time justifying what Roberto Firmino brings to his side in his press conference on Friday.

However, there’s no getting away from the fact that Klopp has a big decision to make ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash at title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

Stick with Firmino – a forward who’s served him so well throughout his Anfield premiership but has been struggling for form in recent months.

Or does he play Diogo Jota? He’s only been a Liverpool player for less than two months but can do no wrong every time he puts on a Reds shirt.

Some might say Firmino and Jota could both start – that happened during the Reds’ Premier League win against Sheffield United last month.

But playing a team bottom of the Premier League is a whole different ball game to playing a Pep Guardiola side.

The midfield battle will be crucial and playing four forwards will see Liverpool get overrun in the middle of the park, especially with Kevin De Bruyne around.

So Klopp is faced with the choice: Firmino or Jota? And it has to be Jota he gives the nod to.

Firmino has played a huge role in helping Liverpool become one of the world’s best sides, but he cuts a player desperately short of confidence. It’s not the Firmino Liverpool fans have come to know and love.

Jota is the polar opposite right now and you can’t have anyone going into a game of this magnitude with self doubt.

His hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League proved Klopp was right to pick him ahead of the No.9 and it was also the fourth game in a row in which Jota has scored for Liverpool.

Jota’s finishing was clinical and no one can dispute he’s got more of an eye for goal than Firmino. He actually has more goals for Liverpool than the Brazilian does in 2020.

Matches like these are decided by fine margins and who takes their chances will be the difference.

When Liverpool get theirs, you want it to fall to a red-hot Jota instead of an unsure Firmino.
